| * SOLD * 1936 Gibson / Recording King 1284 / M4 16" Archtop * SOLD * w/Mahogany Neck, Brazilian Rosewood FB, Carved Top, Truss Rod!! Up for consideration is a vintage Gibson-made, Recording King 1284 (M4) 16" pre-war archtop. Basically, this is a Gibson L50 with a fancy set of scallop inlays and a fancy sunburst finish, and a non-adjustable, fixed truss rod. It gives you the desired classic Gibson warmth of a mahogany neck, carved spruce top, 16" pre-war archtop. The guitar is loud, and while it still can be played softly with a lighter touch, but it can generate loud volumes once you dig in a little and start giving it some gas. It is a rare model that was only made for 2 years for Montgomery Wards, with the Gibson 1933-era headstock. Overall, the original finish is actually in good condition, the obvious exception being the spots where wear is evident, as well as the several dings. There is 1x repaired crack on the top at the lower bout, and some mods over the years, like a pickup jack installed (but no PU is attached), and a relocated strap button, and the tuners are the nice period-correct Grovers, but the guitar headstock looks like it had different tuners at some point in time. This is a versatile guitar that can handle a lot of different styles, and for sure has the power to cut in when playing rhythm in an ensemble setting.
