Here is an entry-level 2004 MIK Epiphone LP Junior, that has been hot-rodded with an upgraded DiMarzio Super Distortion PUP, upgraded tuners, and upgraded chrome knobs. The result is a killer-sounding, professional guitar that costs merely a pittance. It proves the widely-held belief that simply adding a great classic PUP to an entry-level guitar can give you a killer sound on the cheap.
The guitar is not trying to go for a EVH sound specifically, but when you put the DSD in any bolt-on guitar it is going to work certain kind of magic. The bolt-ons in general are going to give you a brighter, snappier tone with more attack, and the DSD has a slightly brighter timbre on its own, and together you get a very clear and powerful sound that while still Gibsonesque, leans enough toward Fender that it makes you think that you might have a single coil in there!! It is a fantastic sound, and is somewhat like the Gibson Melody Maker, but with better definition, better power, and overall better tone.
The guitar is a 2004 MIK, medium neck profile, and it does have some dings and scratches on it form 13 years of use. The tuners were changed out by a previous owner, and he did drill them out for the upgraded tuners, and you can see some remnants of the install, along with the old screw holes. But overall, a killer playing and fantastic sounding guitar -- and I really can't think of anything you could get that would be better-sounding in the sub $200 price range. Does not come with a case.
