Up for consideration is a Warm Audio TB12 TONE BEAST mic preamp -- a modern recreation of the classic console mic pre, inspired by the vintage API 312. THEN, they add several tone shaping component choices, including choice of 2 different Opamps, 3 different Transformers, and circuits containing both Tantalum and Electrolytic capacitors. To top it off, you get an output fader allowing you to drive the channel into varying degrees of distortion for added color and girth. This is a great all-rounder mic pre that can be used for strings, ac. / el. guitars and especially vocals. New, the API 512 mic pres are selling for $800 each in the 500-Series format, so here is a great opportunity to own a much more versatile -- and many say better sounding mic pre, and save $200!!!

CLASSIC VINTAGE SOUND
TB12's have a great vintage API character and tone that imparts a smoothness and musicality to your tracks. The custom Cinemag transfomer is wound in such a way to give the basic 312 channel even more voluptuous midrange detail, and is now even perfectly suited for vocals and acoustic instruments. In addition to the phenomenal-sounding basic API circuit, you also have an 150-ohm impedence switch (killer on SM57s), a clean channel opamp, Capacitor and Transformer choice, a master fader gain control -- all at the flip of a few conviently placed switches. This is a unit that is very easy to wrap your head around, and is well suited to every conceivable recording application from classical to heavy metal!!!
